Mark Lorenzen, professor (mso) at CBS and Director of DRUID, explains why the DRUID conference still continues to grow after 20 years.
CBS’ new strategy puts entrepreneurship and innovation centre stage. And in fact, CBS has been the hub of a world-spanning network of entrepreneurship and innovation research for more than 20 years. Since 1996, the DRUID conference run by CBS has attracted leading scholars from all over the world. Today, it is the largest and widest-spanning conference of its kind with 300 participants from more than 40 countries.
The Ministry of Higher Education and Science calls DRUID “an institution beyond compare” and “vital both nationally and internationally”. It is unusual for the heavyweight entrepreneurship and innovation scholars to give high levels of praise, but they nevertheless refer to DRUID as “Exceptionally valuable and well-regarded” (Sidney Winter, Wharton, University of Pennsylvania), “The preeminent international venue for presenting leading research” (Wes Cohen, Duke University) and “Unique and excellent” (Howard Aldrich, University of North Carolina).
After 20 years, DRUID still continues to grow. By invitation from Stern School of Business, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious business schools, the DRUID17 conference will be held in New York (12 - 14 June 2017) and has received a record number of submissions from practically every entrepreneurship and innovation research group in Europe, America and Asia.
“This year will be the largest DRUID event so far. It is incredible that a small group of Danish scholars have managed to create the go-to global conference in the entrepreneurship and innovation field”, Mark Lorenzen, professor (mso) at CBS and Director of DRUID, says.
Two leading entrepreneurship scholars and recent recipients of the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research supplement:
David Audretsch, Indiana University: “DRUID clearly puts the Copenhagen Business School and Denmark at the centre of the world's leading network”.
Maryann Feldman, University of North Carolina: “DRUID is a Danish brand and demonstrates that a small county can define a unique and important niche”.
